World’s largest ‘Pookalam’ (floral carpet) gets entry into the Limca Book of World Records. A Non Governmental Organization (NGO) based in the capital of the country, New Delhi created the world’s largest pookalam of 14,400 square feet. That required 12.5 tons of fresh flowers. The complete creation of this piece of art required three hours of labour that was provided by 150 children. These children are supported by the Delhi-based NGO called ‘Goonj’ and as many as 40 Whirlpool employees. The Pookalam was created in the presence of the officials invited from the Limca Book of Records.
To create a Pookalam is considered auspicious during Onam. It is also known as ‘Aththa-Poo’.
