How to live life to the Fullest

Want to super-charge your life?

A great life doesn’t just happen.  It is created.  If you want to live life to its absolute fullest, then you have to make a plan.  You’ve got to take specific steps to make it happen.

It is your choice.  You can sit there and do what you have always done and get the results you’ve always gotten or you can start today to live a better life.  It is up to you.  Whine and moan or take action.  Which will it be?  Which do you think is going to make a difference?

Albert Einstein once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.  Is your life on this insane treadmill?  I want to challenge you to get out of this rut.  If you aren’t completely happy with your life, then do something different to get better results!

It will take a little work, but won’t it be worth it?  Isn’t your happiness worth investing a little of your time and energy?  I want to assure you that no matter how you feel, you can make things better by following the steps I’m going to lay out for you.  They aren’t magic beans, but they will put you in the driver seat and that alone will make you feel better.

The Steps to Living Life to the Fullest

Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be.
~Grandma Moses

I’m going to do here what Grandma Moses did in the quote above, I’m going to make this as simple and easy for you as possible.

Of course, no matter how easy I make it or how plainly I explain it, the old saying still holds true, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.”  I can only do so much here.  You are the one that has to take the final action steps necessary to quench your thirst.

I’m offering a cup of cool, fresh water.  Will you take a sip to see what it does for you?  I have no doubt that most will pass by disbelieving.  This is sad, but true.  A few however will accept the offer and be satisfied.  I hope you are one of the few.

First, I’ll begin by outlining the steps needed to start living life to its fullest.  I’ll then share with you an incredible resource that will walk you through it all ensuring that you get it right and don’t miss a thing.

Here are the steps to living life to the fullest:

1.  Dare to Dream

A lot of us have grown numb to our dreams.  Our lives have become dull and we wonder why everything seems so gray.  We need to resurrect our dreams to reclaim our lives.  Dreams add color to our lives.  They are essential to our fulfillment and happiness.  They are the fuel that sparks our enthusiasm.  I’d encourage you to create an entire list of dreams for each area of your life.  Let your imagination run wild.  Think about what you ideally want your life to look like.  For example, ponder the following questions:

  • What are the top ten places that you’d like to visit before you die?
  • If money were no object, how would you spend your time?
  • What three wishes would you request of a real, live genie?
  • What did you want to be when you grew up?

How long has it been since you had thoughts along these lines?  That’s why your life seems dull and boring sometimes.  Dare to dream!

2.  Write Out Specific Goals

Once you’ve revived your dream machine, you need to write out specific goals for what you want to accomplish within a certain timeframe.  Goals are the stepping stones for achieving your dreams.  Where do you want to be on the path to your dreams a year from now?  How about five or ten years from now?  Get a notebook and write it down.  Written goals that you refer to often have a way of becoming reality.  Without goals you are just like a pinball bouncing from one obstacle to the next waiting to go down the gutter.

3.  Deal with Your Mental Obstacles

Most of us are completely blocked by our inner pig and lizard brain.  These two conspire to create huge walls of resistance to keep us mired in our boring, safe, unfulfilling lives.  Before you can live life to the fullest, you have to deal with these mental obstacles.  You’ve got to learn to defeat the pig and the lizard brain by energizing yourself with empowering beliefs that will help you overcome your fears.  I’ve written articles (two are linked above) that can help you jump these hurdles.

4.  Define Your Strategy

Once you’ve dreamed big, written out your goals and dealt with your mental obstacles, it is time to define a specific action plan for getting the life you desire.  We need a “paint by numbers” plan for achieving our goals.  One that is easy to follow and will ultimately create the picture we want.  In other words, you need to ask yourself, “What are the baby steps it will take to realize my goals and dreams?”  Define your strategy in as much detail as possible.  The more specific you are, the more likely you’ll get what you want.

5.  Start Taking Action

This is where the rubber meets the road.  By this point, you will have a clear direction mapped out for a brand-new, exciting life.  All you have to do now is pull the trigger to start making things happen.  If you just complete one small step in your plan every day, then a year from now you will be 365 steps closer to your ideal life.  Little by little, your life will be transformed and just like a flower blooms, so will you.

6.  Finance Your Dreams

One common obstacle that so many people struggle with is how to pay for the life they desire.  I would argue that we often underestimate our financial strength in accomplishing our dreams.  We just have to focus our finances and we will find that dreams really can come true.  What are you willing to sacrifice to make your dreams a reality?  Get creative!  I’d suggest that if you really have identified your dream, then you’ll be willing to sacrifice a little now to have a lot later.

7.  Celebrate Your Victories

Many dreams take some time to be fully realized.  It is easy to drift from our plan along the way.  The best way that I know to stay on course is to keep track of our victories and celebrate them along the way.  A victory journal is a fantastic way to monitor your progress.  In the journal, you write down large and small accomplishments as you achieve them.  You can then go back and review your journal from time-to-time to see how far you’ve come.  This helps keep you focused and encourages you along life’s journey.
