With most of the tickets already sold out, the two-hour ceremony, scheduled from 7 p m, will start with President Pratibha Patil and Britain’s Prince Charles expected to declare the Games open in front of a packed stadium of 65,000 capacity.

Traffic advisory for CWG 2010 opening ceremony

Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory for tomorrow, 3 October, as Delhi sets off the Commonwealth Games 2010.

The opening ceremony will take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and will showcase 5000 years of Indian history. Delhi has been turned into a fortress at the moment with over 1,00,000 security personnel on duty ensuring a safe game. The opening ceremony venue will alone have presence of  60,000 troops. MiG fighters and helicopter gunships will be on standby.

Police has already cancelled all leaves and has ordered a complete shutdown of commercial establishments and shops in the city on 3 October and 14 October.

So, we bring you the traffic advisory for tomorrow and will advice our readers to off the road during these hours.

Restrictions on movement of General Traffic

1.) From 6:00 am to Midnight: Bhishma Pitamaha Marg – from Lodhi Road to Kotla Mubarakpur, both ways.
2.) From 2:00 pm: Lodhi Road between Safdarjang Madrasa to Lodhi Road flyover. Jawarhar Lal Nehru Stadium Marg – Mehar Chand Market to Lala Lajpat Rai Marg. MTNL Building road- Scope Complex Chowk to Kushak Nallah (iii) and (iv) already closed.
3.) 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm: NH-24 from Noida Mor flyover to Ring Road – Nizamuddin T-point. Ring Road from Bhairon Road T-point to Ashram.
4.) 8:00 pm. to 1:00 am: From Ring Road from Ashram to Bhairon Road T-point. NH-24 between Ring Road – Nizamuddin T-point to Noida Mor flyover.

During the given time, the mentioned roads will be closed, so kindly avoid these routes.

Suggested Routes for General Public to avoid Congestion on Roads

People not connected to JLN Stadium Opening Ceremony can take following routes from North to South and East to West and vice versa.

A. North to South and Vice Versa
Ring Road- Bhairon Road-Mathura Road- Neela Gumbad-Ashram- Ring Road- Towards Dhaula Kuan, Mathura Road towards Badarpur.
Boulevard Road- Rani Jhansi Road- Faiz Road- Upper Ridge Road to Dhaula Kuan.
B. East to West and Vice Versa
East Delhi and Noida- DND Flyover- Ring Road – Ashram
East Delhi and Noida-Vikas Marg-ITO- DDU Marg- Connaught Place- RML Hospital- Upper Ridge Road

Special Advisory For the Opening Ceremony

1. Spectators are required to occupy their seats latest by 5:30pm.

2. Spectators who have purchased their tickets for the Opening Ceremony & have not redeemed their e-vouchers for physical tickets should collect their tickets only from the IRCTC office at STC Building, Ground Floor, Jawahar Vyapar Bhawan, 1, Tolstoy Marg, New Delhi- 110001. This collection centre will be open from 6:00 am onwards on 3rd Oct.
3. A few spectators who have purchased tickets for denomination INR 1,000, INR 5,000 & INR 25,000 have been relocated to a different section due to restricted view. Spectator services volunteers at the venue shall be there to assist the spectators at the venue. Below is the list of the affected seats.
