A motivational article in preview of former Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s call for a weekly fast during the era of food shortage in the mid-sixties.
People would remember more now a days to take name of one Indian Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastry who was when Prime Minister of India has given a simple call for people ,when there was extreme shortage of food in India,a Famine was looming large over country, war was being imposed by neighboring country ,USA had put all type of sanctions over India,USSR was also in fix.
At that time when things were going out of hands Shastry Ji appealed to people to “PLEASE TRY TO GIVE UP ONE TIME MEAL ON MONDAY EVENING”. There was no legislation, no gazette notification, no statute, no civil instruction – it was only a call from Shastry Ji .He emphasized that by observing one time fast in a week will enable the country to feed the 30 million mouths in a day. As there was acute shortage of food in Kerala at that time.
One will not believe that all most whole citizens of India,-Restaurants, Hotels, Dhabas, and even station food stalls have started obeying the appeal and with that moral support and of course with other efforts the country overcome the problem of food shortage in a year .After wards the country made record productions in food and subsequent Governments took it massively on priority.
One can easily imagine if the leaders of today era call such type of any appeal how many people will accept and abide ……???
Today when we have developed so much in all spheres of life, even legislations/rules are made ,slogans are pasted on massive news papers, hoardings and media etc.,instructions are imposed by police and what not even no one bothers about compliance or to follow for others benefits.
But then It was a CALL of alone one man which whole country accepted whole heartedly with full integrity. He made the horse to drink the water by his character and attitude, which is not generally accepted phrase.
Living in the favorable and unfavorable situation is called “PART OF LIFE”, But smiling in all those situations is called “ART OF LIFE”. Smooth roads never make good drivers! Smooth sea never makes good sailors! Clear Skies never make good pilots! Problem free life never makes a strong & good person! Be strong enough to accept the challengers of life.!” Success lies not in the result but in the effort, being the best is not at all important, doing the best is all that matters.
The greatest discovery of my generation
is that a human being can alter his
life by altering his attitudes of mind.
