Good samaritans are rare these days. And good samaritans that put their lives on the line are practically nonexistent. Never have we written about a man as brave as Bishnu Shrestha, who not only risked his life to save another person, but took on 40 armed men in combat and came out with nothing more than an injury to his hand.
Shrestha, a Nepalese soldier, was riding a train when a gang of about 40 bandits armed with guns, knives and swords entered and proceeded to rob the passengers of their valuables.
He remained peaceful and calm during the robbery until one of the thugs tried to rape the 18-year-old girl sitting next to him as her parents watched helplessly. She looked to Shrestha for protection:
“The girl cried for help, saying ‘You are a soldier, please save a sister,’” Shrestha recalled. “I prevented her from being raped, thinking of her as my own sister.”
Having had enough of the gang, Shrestha pulled out a knife of his own and began to fight back. And here’s the surprising part: fighting without any help from anyone else, Shrestha managed to kill three, injure eight, and cause the rest of the gang members to run away.
This is a true example of a real hero, especially one that managed to accomplish something we only see in Hollywood movies with just a knife. We here at BrickHouse Security are honored to add Bishnu Shrestha to our hall of fame of ‘Everyday Heroes’ and hope that more people show the type of bravery that he displayed in this robbery.
